Art for Climate Justice with Andrea Chang

This working group will focus on the use of art to advocate for climate justice, as well as sustainable methods of creating art. We will look at different examples of art that have been used to comment on the climate crisis in order to discuss what makes art a particularly effective means of social commentary. Our workshop will culminate in all participants repurposing old materials in order to creatively give them new life.

People and Pandemic with Oishee Ghosh

This working group touches mainly on two of the P’s in sustainability: People and  Pandemic. It faces the issue in an interdisciplinary manner by analyzing the major  stakeholders in charge and how their decision making has affected the people in  the country. We aim to analyze the countries impacted by the pandemic, such as the USA,  Canada, New Zealand, Lebanon, China, India since they are all of varying levels of  development, have different systems of leadership and governance, and have faced different types of challenges in the pandemic. Through three interactive sessions, we aim to analyze the decision-making process of countries during the pandemic, propose our own solutions to the pandemic, and present these solutions. The project will involve working group work and emphasize an interdisciplinary approach, with the goal of expanding our ways of thinking and approaching problems.

Green Brain: Let’s Sustain! A Psychological Approach to Sustainability with Elias Elaneh & Vanessa Natareno

In this working group, we will be looking at the problem of sustainability through a psychological lens, more specifically using Icek Ajzen’s theory of planned behaviour (1985). Using the knowledge you will have gained in the working group, you will have the opportunity to channel your inner environmentalist by creating your own graphic promoting sustainability and sharing it on your social media platforms.
